Sentinel shunter 10202 "Barabel" at the head of the 1155 to Peterborough (via Yarwell) at Wansford on March 3rd 2007.

There are several preserved shunters that look like ex-BR machines, but never actually worked for British Rail at all. Drewry Shunter works number 2573/7859 is virtually identical to the Class 04, but this example spent it's life in industrial use. It has now been restored to look like an 04, complete with a BR number that it might have gained had it been built for the British Railways network. 11230 arrives at Toddington with a train from Winchcombe on 10th July 2009.

There is a book called "Diesels Out Of Kings Cross" which includes pictures of...Electric Multiple Units! Therefore, even though this is a site devoted to passenger workings, one or two pictures of locos I have "scored" are included nowhere near a passenger train simply to "complete the set". Photos of Thomas Hill shunter No.11 banking trains out of Wansford in 1992 seem to be non-existant, so here is a picture of said machine on Wansford shed 15 years (or more) after it was "scratched". And pictures of 265SA on shuttles at Ludgershall in 1987 are equally elusive. This is the beast at Kineton on 13th March 1994.

Built by British Thompson-Houston in 1931 for use in the Ford Works plant in Dagenham, BTH40 sits at Northiam with the 0930 Tenterden - Bodiam on May 3rd 2009.

Ex British Rail unclassified gronk D226 at Keighley on 1st August 1998, after working the 1315 from Ingrow West.

Another ex-BR unclassified Gronk, D2511 waits to leave Ingrow West on June 16th 2007 with the 1400 to Keighley.

Ex London Transport Sentinel shunter DL83 is attached to the 1030 to Yarwell Junction at Wansford on the Nene Valley. October 6th 2007.

Another Sentinel, this one is PB39, based at the East Somerset Railway. It is seen after top and tailing the 1200 ex-Cranmore West at Mendip Vale on 21st June 2008.

Hunslet 3395 is seen at Bere Ferrers on April 3rd 1994, giving trips at the, at the time, fledgling Tamar Belle railway.

The amount of London Underground Battery locos that have worked passenger trains can probably be counted on one hand. Here, L44 approaches Hornchurch on 5th August 1990 with the 1501 Cranham - Upney, run in conjunction with an open day at Cranham Depot in Upminster.

A Dutch equivalent of an 08, NS663 is seen at Meldon Quarry on October 15th 2006. The loco later ran to Okehampton to work the 1515 back to the Quarry.

Whilst a handful of Dutch 600 Class shunters are preserved in the UK, many more are in industrial use. This one may look like it's in BR green, but it's the "Middlepeak" livery. NS687 is seen at Hammersmith after working with "Peak" D182 on a train from Swanwick Junction on April 25th 2009.

The Spa Valley Railway's shunter "Southerham" is seen working with D3489 on the 1400 Tunbridge Wells West - Groombridge Loop - Tunbridge Wells West working at Groombridge on August 5th 2006.

Barrow Hill played host to this "Janus" design shunter, preserved at the Nene Valley after finishing it's industrial career. In this shot, the Yorkshire Engine Company built loco (works number 2670) has just worked a trip with 07001, and the "Rods" were being retired to the shed when this shot was taken. 8th August 2009.

Given that I have plenty of required locos in the UK, I tend not to consider the amount of winners abroad. But the odd holiday has brought a few bits of additional haulage. This is 252-068-2 at Madrid Chamartin on April 16th 2007, after working from Irun with the beds from Paris.
